a journey filled with hope
Everyone has their own journey in life filled with numerous pit stops and pauses along the way, and these kids are no different. While their individual journeys may have included a stop at the Dell Children’s Hospital, we still wanted to give them the opportunity to use their imaginations and follow pathways to anywhere they could imagine.
The center was created to provide a designated space for the hospital’s certified Child Life Specialists and healthcare professionals to utilize for Dell Children’s TV, the hospital’s streaming service, as well as creative art and music therapies, all of which are intended to aid in the healing process for children and their families during their stay.
01. EXTERIOR
With this space, we knew that we wanted the journey to start before the kids even entered the room. To do so, we brought the pathway out into the hall, around corners and over windows, to ensure that no matter the route taken, all avenues led to this space.

We saw people walking into the room with smiles. This is not what the rest of the hospital looks like, feels like – it’s a just joy bringer.

02. INTERIOR
Leaning into the idea of the yellow-brick road and someone imagining their own path or journey, we wanted to carry these lines and graphics throughout the room. Within the space are interactive moments for kids to stop and play and escape their everyday lives and enjoy just being a kid again as well.

We make a choice to see the good in every day – in the mirror, in each other, and in our communities. When we see the good that’s possible, together, we can create it.
